West Side Market
CDA provided a landmark $28 million investment package to support the $53 million first stage of the West Side Market’s transformation project. The investment includes a combination of New Market Tax Credits, Historic Tax Credit bridge financing, and a loan from the CDFI Healthy Food Financing Initiative. This catalytic investment secures the final gap financing necessary to launch the most significant renovation in the Market’s 112-year history. West Side Market is one of Cleveland’s oldest and most beloved civic institutions. This project will modernize the facility while preserving its historic architecture and improving merchant and customer experiences, including upgrades to HVAC, food storage, cleaning and cutting stations, and basement access for vendors. As a designated food hub and anchor of the Ohio City neighborhood, the Market serves over 1 million visitors annually, including low- to moderate-income families.
