Daves Supermarket opened a new 55,000 square foot supermarket in the Midtown neighborhood as part of the Link59 projectan 11-acre campus located in the center of Clevelands Health-Tech Corridor, immediately adjacent to the  University Hospital Rainbow Center for Women and Children.The new grocery store replaced Daves flagship location and provides access to healthy, fresh food to residents on the east side of Cleveland that were underserved. The familyowned Cleveland store also houses a pharmacy, bank and neighborhood gathering space. That space includes a teaching kitchen, which is used by University Hospital nutritionists and other organizations to teach classes focusing on proper nutrition and eating habits.The store includes food court dining for lunch or dinner, featuring both Daves prepared foods and collaborations with restaurateurs.

Goods or Services to Low Income Community

Dave’s Supermarket will be a full-service grocery store including pharmacy and bank. The project is located in a food desert.

The developer is utilizing storm water management designs to reduce run-off volume

Executed Community Benefits Agreement

The project sponsor has committed to quantifiable community impacts by executing a Community Benefits Agreement.

Healthy Food Financing

Patients of the UH Rainbow Center for Women and Children will receive healthy food “prescriptions” from care providers for redemption at Dave’s. WIC, SNAP and other subsidies will be accepted in order to make the purchase of healthy food choices affordable. In addition, Dave’s will provide cooking classes and seminars to educate neighborhood residents on the benefits of healthy food choices.

Diversity and Inclusion

The project sponsor committed to construction participation goals for Minority, Female, and Cleveland Small Businesses (MBE/FBE/CSB) as well as minority, female and City of Cleveland resident workers.
